Chinese New Year In Yangshuo

After a very cold period in Yangshuo it is so nice to see the sun again. Tonight being the eve of the new Chinese Year, the locals have a bounce in their step and you can feel the excitment building up.
Many shops will be closed. However some restaurants will remain open. The reason is that most of the locals will be having a huge feast with their families. Today is about going to the market and getting that live free range chicken which will be the main dish of the meal. Many ducks and fish will be served on the tble also. It scares me to think how many chickens will be consumed in all of China today and over the next few days
Tonight is also the biggest night for fireworks and firecrackers. It is so much fun to go with my kids to buy them. There is such a huge range to chose from. You can get really small but super loud ones for a few jiao or you can easily spend over 200 Yuan on fireworks that launch a succession of rockets into the sky.
There will be many people by the river bank lighting up but there will be people launching fireworks from their roof tops, balconies and all over the street. It will be lots of fun tonight, and noisy.
