The limestone’s karsts that make Yangshuo so visually unique have also made it Asia’s next climbing destination. Yangshuo has a unique combination of climbing possibilities for all abilities, a high level of accessibility, breathtaking exposure and yet a remoteness and purity that is becoming hard to find anywhere else.

Rock climbing began in Yangshuo in the early 1990’s and has gathered momentum in recent years. There are over 200 routes spread over about 25 locations within a short van or cycle ride of town. In addition to a number of established of beginner and intermediate routes Yangshuo has grades as difficult as 5.14 and endless opportunity for new route development.

Commercial guiding operations in town can organize a variety of climbing opportunities for visitors. The most popular is a half-day introductory climbing excursion. This style trip requires no prior knowledge of climbing and utilizes the safest climbing procedures. For more advanced climbers there is a climbing guidebook available for the region and local guiding operations can organize more advanced training courses for those looking to advance to multi-pitch, lead climbing or bolting.
