Hot air balloon rides are no longer available in Yangshuo

If they do become available in the future then we recommend you take a lot of care in choosing the right operator

We strongly advise you not to go up on a balloon ride without checking the company's safety record. This is difficult to check as the companies try to hide any accidents. However, the best way to avoid a poor company is by:-

1. Do not book the balloon ride through a tout. If the balloon ride is cheap then it is probably because the company takes shortcuts on maintenance and repairs

2. Talk to other people who have just done it. They will be able to give you first hand information on the type of operation the balloon company is conducting

3. If the hotel you are staying is a reputable hotel, then they will give you honest information on these balloon rides. A good hotel does not want to loose their reputation over a balloon ride. Small hotels and guesthouses give great room deals and then supplement their income by selling balloon rides. Their motive may be to make money from selling a balloon ride instead of focusing on your safety.

4. Try to ascertain the weather for your balloon ride. If the weather is inclement, then it would be too risky as landing places are few and far between. Wind and rain do not combine well with hot air balloons

When you arrange a balloon trip, the balloon company will pick you up from your hotel and take you to your starting point. They will also return you back to Yangshuo at the end
